MIGUEL A. HUERTOS

Miguel completed a degree in chemistry at the Univ. of Oviedo with double specialization (Organic and Inorganic Chemistry). After complete his degree, Miguel was recruited for his PhD in organometallic chemistry in the research group of Julio Pérez, under the co-supervision of Lucía Riera. During his PhD Miguel worked in a new generation of N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) complexes. Towards the end of his PhD, Miguel was awarded a Marie Curie Fellowship which he undertook at the Univ. of Oxford (UK) in the group of Prof. Andrew S. Weller. Under A. S. Weller's menthorship, he was introduced to the dehydrogenation of phosphine-boranes. After this, Miguel  joined the group of Prof. Piet van Leeuwen at the Catalan Institute of Chemical Investigations (ICIQ), where he worked on discovering catalytic applications of phosphine-stabilized nanoparticles. While at ICIQ, Miguel was awarded an IKERBASQUE Research Fellow grant from the Basque Government to start his independent career in Spain. In September 2014, Miguel moved to San Sebastian to set-up the laboratory. Miguel now lead a group, working on new silicon- and boron-base ligands and its applications in catalysis, topics, all of which are unrelated to any of his previous research.
